JANET(UK) Stakeholder Consultative Panel

Context

The 2008 Gross Report on HEFCE related bodies, of which JANET(UK) is one, proposed that they should be reinforced in their autonomy. It also proposed a streamlining of the JISC Committees. One outcome of this was that the JISC Network Committee (JCN) which had primarily focused on network strategy and policy was dissolved with some of its responsibilities being integrated into a much broader ranging committee – the JISC Infrastructure and Resources Committee (JIR). In order to maintain and indeed increase responsiveness to the needs of network users, JANET(UK) has taken on more responsibility for stakeholder input to the technology strategy relating to the network and associated services. To this end we have established a new Stakeholder Consultative Panel.

Membership and Governance.

Next Meeting
22nd September    - The subject of the meeting is Security Issues

Security threats are always in the minds of those responsible for networking and for the provision of computer based services. There is a wide range of issues to consider, including the dynamic nature of these threats, loss of services, loss or compromise of data, reputational damage and possible legal proceedings.

JANET(UK) operates the Computer Security and Incident Response Team (JANET CSIRT) to co-ordinate responses to computer security issues across JANET and to assist JANET customers in the response to threats and incidents.

The stakeholder workshop will focus on the items that JANET customers consider to be major threats and the ways in which JANET(UK) could further assist the community in addressing these threats.
